Goa! It is not just a place but an emotion for young party lovers. We all have planned to visit Goa during our college days (some even in their school days!), but most of the time we end up dropping the plan due to some reasons, mostly because we don’t get permission from our parents (pitaji nahi maanenge!). However, this time, I finally visited Goa after a long discussion and a lot of brainstorming with my friend. I am definitely not going to share how I managed my parents, but I will share the experience of our Goa trip. Keep reading as I am about to share everything you should know before you visit Goa. 2. Reaching Goa: Convenient Travel Options
2.1. Choosing the most budget-friendly mode of transportation to Goa
While planning our visit, our main priority was to keep the travel and accommodation expenses as low as possible! Although Goa is well connected by road, rail, and air, if you are on a tight budget, like us, taking a train is the cheapest option to reach Goa. Trains offer a cost-effective way to reach Goa while enjoying the scenic journey.
2.2. Exploring railway options: Madgaon, Vasco Da Gama, Karmali, and Thivim
There are two major railway stations in Goa, Madgaon and Vasco Da Gama. Make sure to check which station is closest to your destination. Apart from these stations, there are also trains that go to Karmali and Thivim, so you can consider those options too.
2.3. Overview of Goa’s international airports: Dabolim and Manohar
Goa has two international airports, Dabolim Airport (also known as Goa International Airport) and Manohar International Airport, which connect Goa with other states as well as other countries.
2.4. Tips for arranging transportation, especially for late arrivals
Here’s a piece of advice: if you’re arriving after 6 pm, there’s a high chance that public transportation will not be available. So, please make the necessary arrangements in advance. Otherwise, you might end up paying a hefty taxi fare at the counter, and that can be a burden on your wallet.
3. Best Time to Visit: Unlocking Goa’s Splendor
3.1. Why post-monsoon season offers favorable travel conditions
We visited Goa in August, just after the heavy monsoon season in July. The monsoon time is not considered as the best time to visit, but just after the monsoon is quite favorable. During this time, you can find crazy deals on hotels and flights.
3.2. Avoiding crowds and planning weekday visits for a serene experience
Avoid peak tourist season (December and January) if you prefer a quieter and more serene experience. Goa tends to get overcrowded during weekends and holidays, so if you truly want to experience its serene beauty, it’s best to plan your visit on weekdays.
Now, you must be thinking how to manage time off from work, well, I’ll leave it totally up to you to figure out that part 😉.
4. Planning Your Goa Adventure: Exploring North and South Goa
To cover Goa efficiently, imagine it into two parts: North Goa and South Goa. Dedicate one day to explore each part, and you’ll have a good overview of the region. Three days are generally considered sufficient to cover the major attractions of Goa.
North Goa is known for its vibrant and bustling atmosphere, with crowded beaches and plenty of fun places to explore. On the other hand, South Goa offers a more tranquil and peaceful environment.
If you prefer the lively and energetic vibe, North Goa is the place for you. However, if you seek a serene and peaceful ambiance, South Goa is the ideal choice. And if you enjoy the best of both worlds, you can explore the entirety of Goa and experience its diverse offerings.
5. Choosing the Most Budget-Friendly Mode of Travel
The first thing you should do is grab your driving license and rent a two-wheeler as soon as possible. If you delay, you might have fewer options to choose from. The rental cost per day ranges from INR 300 to INR 500, depending on the season.
Tips: Ensuring vehicle safety
Before leaving the place, make sure to thoroughly check the vehicle. If possible, take videos or photos from all sides, so that you won’t be held responsible for any pre-existing damages. Also, check if the helmet is provided with the rental and remember to arrange fuel (gas) for the vehicle on your own.
When riding a bike in Goa, it’s essential to wear a helmet and carry your driving license at all times. Otherwise, you may face a hefty fine.
6. Choosing Accommodation Options
If you choose a hotel that is very close to the sea, it may exceed your budget. So, it’s a good idea to select a hotel that is not too close but still within walking distance. This way, you can find good hotels that fit your budget.
We came across an incredible discount at Hotel Colva Kinara, and the best part was its location—just a few minutes’ walk from Colva beach. The interior of the hotel was captivating, and the service provided by the staff was noteworthy.
7. Day-by-Day Goa Travel Diary: Making Memories
7.1 Colva Beach: Embracing the Beach Vibes on Arrival in Goa
We arrived in Goa and couldn’t wait to experience the beach vibes. We went to Colva Beach, where we found shops selling things we needed and cool souvenirs.
The beach was clean and not crowded, perfect for relaxing and having fun. We heard about beach shacks where you could eat right by the sea, but they’re only open at certain times.
We also went to a Karaoke bar where people sang and had a great time. It was a fun party place to visit in Goa.
7.2 Discovering the Wonders of North Goa
In North Goa, we started our day by visiting Aguada Fort, which has been a popular shooting location for many movies. From the fort, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea in Goa. Sinquerim beach is very close to this fort. There is also a helipad nearby, that one can visit. We explored some amazing beaches in Goa!
Candolim Beach is lively and crowded, with shacks where you can get yummy Goan food and drinks. You can also get head massages and temporary tattoos there. If you like water sports, you can do jet skiing and parasailing. They have shops where you can buy beach clothes too.
Calangute Beach is also popular but gets very crowded. They have lots of fun water activities like banana rides and parasailing. Baga Beach is known for its beach shacks where you can have drinks and enjoy the lively nightlife.
Anjuna Beach and Ozran Beach have beautiful sunsets, but we didn’t go there because of high parking charges.
Vagator Beach is perfect for party lovers and has awesome beach parties and music festivals. There are other beaches too, like Dream Beach and Chapora Beach, where you can relax and buy local souvenirs.
We also visited the ancient Chapora Fort, which has a great view but closes at 5 pm. It would have been nice if it stayed open till sunset.
We concluded our day by enjoying the beautiful sunset at Vagator Beach. With this, we wrapped up our first day of the trip.
7.3 Day 2: Exploring the Serenity of South Goa
We visited some amazing beaches in South Goa! First, we went to Polem Beach, which was the last beach in Goa. It was special because it had no crowds and offered a peaceful and beautiful environment.
Then, we went to Palolem Beach, which was famous and crowded. It had lively music, shacks to relax in, and a vibrant atmosphere.
After that, we visited Butterfly Beach, which was popular on social media. It was a bit hard to reach, and it was already overcrowded when we arrived. But it had untouched natural beauty and lots of butterflies.
We also explored Agonda, Cola, and Kakolem Beach, each with their own unique charm. We had a great time enjoying the serene atmosphere and trying Goan delicacies.
Even though we missed out on Kakolem Beach and Cabo de Rama Beach, we had a fun time at Colva Beach and ended the day at the nearby karaoke bar. We were excited for more adventures in Goa the next day!
7.4 Day 3: Panjim City, Churches & Museum
On Day 3, we took a break from the beaches and explored Panjim City, the capital of Goa. We visited a special place called Fontainhas, known for its colorful houses that make for great photos.
We also saw the beautiful Immaculate Conception Church and visited Miramar and Dona Paula beaches.
In Panjim, there are casinos, but we chose a cruise on the Mandovi river instead. It was fun and affordable.
We visited the Old Goa Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the St. Francis of Assisi Church with its museum.
We also went to Big Foot Goa, a museum that showcases Goan traditions and culture. Our day ended at Colva Beach, where we returned our rented scooter.
8. Encountering a Scam – Lessons Learned in Goa:
The previous night, I met a guy named Sujoy here. He told me about a scam he and his friends encountered in Goa. They wanted to go to a pub, and at the entrance, a person approached them and said he could arrange a great deal for them at a nominal fee, offering unlimited drinks and food. Sujoy and his friends paid the person, but when they presented the deal voucher at the time of check-out, they were denied by the staff, who claimed they did not have such an offer. They were scammed by someone. So, always check with the restaurant/bar before accepting any suspicious deals from unknown sources. Sujoy learned a lesson, and now I’m sharing it with you so that you can be aware and have a great time in Goa without falling for scams.
9. Foods and Nightlife
9.1 Goan cuisine and refreshing drinks
Goa is famous for its delicious food, cool drinks, and exciting parties.
9.2 Exploring the vibrant nightlife and entertainment options
When the sun goes down, the parties light up with bright colors. It’s a must to experience the lively atmosphere. But make sure to follow the rules of the places you visit for a safe and fun time.
10. Waterfalls: Delights Beyond the Beaches
Besides beaches, Goa also has beautiful waterfalls for nature lovers to enjoy. These waterfalls are a refreshing change from the coastal scenery and offer chances to swim, take photos, and appreciate the natural beauty.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit the waterfalls this time due to time constraints. But I heard from my friend that Dudhsagar Waterfalls is a breathtaking sight, especially when seen from a train. I can’t wait to see it myself on my next trip to Goa.
11. Closing the Chapter: The Essence of Goan Hospitality
As our trip to Goa came to an end, we had to bid farewell to this beautiful coastal paradise. With my train to Bangalore scheduled for that night, I made my way to the train station. However, my friend’s train was scheduled for the next morning, so he decided to stay in Goa for the night.
I must mention the remarkable hospitality of the people in Goa. From the hotel staff to the friendly locals we encountered, everyone displayed a genuine warmth and friendliness. Their welcoming nature made our trip even more enjoyable and memorable. Whether it was receiving helpful recommendations or engaging in conversations, the people of Goa went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and comfortable. The hospitality of the Goan people truly added to the overall charm and beauty of this incredible destination.
12. Final Thoughts: : Responsible Travel and Cherished Memories
To sum up, when we visit Goa, we should remember to keep the beaches clean by not leaving any garbage behind. Beautiful places like Butterfly Beach need our protection. It’s important to be responsible and take care of the environment. We should all do our part to preserve nature’s beauty for future generations. Let’s be mindful travelers and leave only footprints while making wonderful memories in Goa.
Furthermore, it’s important to mention that some people only go to one beach and don’t explore all the wonderful places Goa has to offer. They miss out on the authentic atmosphere of Goa by just relaxing and drinking at one beach. My suggestion is to break away from this routine and take the time to discover new beaches. Plan a longer trip to Goa and spend quality time at different beaches to fully experience the vibrant vibes of Goa.
Lastly, I suggest talking to the local people and learning about their culture. It’s a great way to have a better experience in Goa. But remember to be respectful and follow their customs. Also, be careful of scams and don’t let anyone spoil your trip. By keeping these things in mind and planning well, you can have an amazing time in Goa.
