Ever dreamed of escaping to a riverside retreat? My weekend trip to Gadiara was the perfect mix of nature, serenity and relaxation. Let me take you through my tour experience and the best tourist spots to explore!

Why is Gadiara popular?

This riverside village delights nature lovers and photographers, offering a perfect spot for picnics, peaceful retreats, and a break from the city’s hustle.

People visit here on a day trip to witness the scenic confluence of the Hooghly and Rupnarayan rivers.

How to Reach Gadiara from Kolkata?

Gadiara can be reached via train and road. Take a local train from Howrah to Bagnan, then walk to the Bagnan Bus Stand and board a private bus to Gadiara (available every 30 minutes). Alternatively, travelers can drive directly via NH16.

Saikat, my friend, planned the optimum and cost-saving route for our weekend trip from Kolkata with minimal stops. On a sunny Saturday morning, we took a local train from Howrah to Bagnan, followed by a bus to Gadiara.

There are direct WBSTC buses from Kolkata (Esplanade) to Gadiara, with the first bus departing at 5 AM and the last at 6 PM. Alternatively, one can take a bus to Shyampur and then a shared auto to reach Gadiara.

Gadiara offers scenic river views and historical charm, with must-visit spots like Gadiara Riverside, Fort Mornington, Ganga Mandir and Ashram, Gadiara Ferry Ghat, and the Old Lighthouse—a perfect destination for a weekend or a day trip from Kolkata.

Our room had all the essentials, but the highlight was the balcony with a scenic view of the river and the lush garden, featuring a majestic Lord Shiva statue.

The garden itself is a lovely place to relax and capture some good pictures.

Another great perk of staying at a riverside hotel was taking a stroll along the river in the evening. The moonlight reflecting on the water created a magical sight.

The in-house restaurant serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes and even accommodates personal cooking requests. We tried the local cuisine, made less spicy as per our request, and it turned out delicious.
